Biography

Clermont Gauthier is a professor of psycho-pedagogy with the Faculty of Education at Laval University. He holds the Canada Research Chair in the Study of Teacher Training and is a member of the Centre de recherche interuniversitaire sur la formation et la profession enseignante. With over two hundred written works, many of which have been translated into English, Spanish and Portugese, and contributions to more than two hundred and fifty conferences, Clermont Gauthier's contribution to education through research is recognized in Europe, Brazil, Mexico and several African countries as well as in Canada.

Main Achievements

  • Contributed to the development of a knowledge base on teaching
  • Co-founded the Centre de recherche interuniversitaire sur la formation et la profession enseignante (CRIFPE)
  • Awarded a Canadian Research Chair in Teacher Training in 2001
  • One of the writers of a Ministère de l'éducation du Québec report, which was part of an international study mandated by the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD)
  • Invited by UNESCO to write a background paper for the important research initiative Education for All. The Quality Imperative (2005)
  • Co-writer of the Ministère de l'éducation du Québec's new policy Teacher Training: Orientations, Professional Competencies (2001)
  • Co-published Pour une théorie de la pédagogie. Recherches contemporaines sur le savoir des enseignants (1997) which was awarded a prize by the Canadian Federation for the Humanities and the Social Sciences
  • In 1998, in collaboration with C. Lessard and M. Tardif, published Formation des maîtres et contexts sociaux, a work that analyses the condition of teacher training programs in various countries
