Research Agenda

The Canadian Education Associaton is in the process of developing an ambitious research-based agenda that will build on CEA's work on adolescent learning, as well identify strategic new areas for future work.

Strategic Themes

  1. New perspectives on adolescent learning and human development
  2. Understanding the conditions for innovation and systems change
  3. Creating successful pathways and trajectories for youth
  4. The social roles of education: new understandings and models

The research agenda will consolidate and expand on the work of the 2006 symposium Getting it Right for Adolescent Learners; the resulting Call to Action (PDF); and the 2007 symposium on Design for Learning. The dramatic performance that features the powerful voices of young people and their vision of what school should be, Imagine a School, forms the backdrop.

CEA's emerging agenda rests on the conviction that Canadians are ready to explore new ways of thinking about public education in the 21st century. We are fortunate that there is incredible potential within Canadian research communities, both within and beyond education, for contributing to new perspectives on secondary education and adolescent learning. To capitalize on this potential, CEA's research agenda will inspire new perspectives, nurture innovative thinking and exchange knowledge among others who share CEA's vision for educational and social transformation in Canada.
