Malcolm X

Malcolm X You can’t separate peace from freedom because no one can be at peace unless he has his freedom.

Core Contribution

Malcolm X was a most known for the militant stance he took (and encouraged other African Americans to take) against the government of the United States and its agencies. He based his position upon the government and local policing agencies’ discrimination against African Americans during the era of the fight for civil rights, as well as governance policies aimed at the socioeconomic oppression of this group. He preached a message of unity, socioeconomic independence, and self-discipline within the black community, at the height of his anti-establishment militancy. However, as Malcolm X evolved in his beliefs, he became more of an activist for human rights and a well respected pan-African statesman, striving for unity within and outside of the race. Though extreme in his method, Malcolm X brought awareness to a people, as well as a nation, that drastic changes in ideology and consciousness had to be made for the nation to move forward in peace and prosperity.
